The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey

by Susan Wojciechowski and illustrated by P.J. Lynch

”Christmas is pish-posh,” grumbles Jonathan Toomey, the best wood carver in the valley. He’s a Scroogelike recluse; but he’s a gentle grouch, it turns out, and he hides a sad secret. He’s transformed, not by Dickensian ghosts, but by an eager seven-year-old boy and his widowed mother who ask him to make them a Christmas nativity scene. A touching tale for any time of year, this beautifully illustrated sweet story is accompanied by a CD, just in case you can’t be there to read it to your kids.
Clck here for The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey.

A mix of humor, suspense, and happy endings, these folk tales are entertaining for all ages. Sharon Kennedy's voice conveys perfectly the action in the story, and the listener's mind conjures up images as if reading from a picture book. We are transported to the Irish countryside with its bogs, hills, and windy roads - the perfect locale for wizards, leprechauns, and talking animals! My two preschoolers beg to hear these tales over and over, and I gladly comply as I've not tired of them yet either. (An amazon reviewer.)

Instructions of King Cormac, King of Cashel

Be not too wise, nor too foolish
Be not too conceited, nor diffident
Be not too haughty, nor too humble
Be not too talkative, nor too silent
Be not too hard, nor too feeble.

If you be too wise, men will expect too much of you
If you be too foolish, you will be deceived
If you be conceited, you will be thought difficult
If you be too humble, you will be without honour
If you be too talkative, you will not be heeded
If you be silent, you will not be regarded
If you be too hard, you will be broken
If you be too feeble, you will be crushed.
